A New Play with Men’s Shed Scotland

3in1 Theatre have been awarded funding by Foundation Scotland from The ScotRail Foundation to embark on an exciting new project alongside six Men’s Sheds from the Scottish Men’s Shed Assocaition.

Each shed will be taking part in eight sessions with a professional playwright as they work towards the writing of a brand new play. We are excited to be working with men from; St Andrews Men’s Shed, Glenrothes Men’s Shed, The Men of Leith’s Men’s Shed, Barrhead Men’s Shed, Stonehouse Men’s Shed and Galashiels Men’s Shed.

This new play will be created by the men, they will choose the story, create the characters and the plot structure including the themes and issues of the play, alongside the same work being undertaken with another five shed’s. The playwrite creates the first draft of the play, reviewed and adapted by the men leading to a redrafted finished play.

This play will be one story written from the ideas and influence of six different shed’s from six different corners of Scotland.

The project concludes with an event at Queen Margaret University, Musselburgh, where the finished play will be read aloud to an invited audience and the men who have been working on the project will come together as one for the first time.

The Scottish Men’s Sheds Association is excited to support 3in1 Theatre as they undertake this new community drama initiative across Scotland. We recognise the immeasurable effect the arts can have on health and wellbeing and are thrilled to support this new concept which will engage different types of men. Given 3in1 Theatres experience in community theatre and engagement, I am sure it will be a great success for all involved across the country.
